Reflecting Hope Telford 2024

Kevin Crooks, the Telford church PM leader, shares their activities and the way they reflect hope and God's love in the local community.

God is love

Family Fun Day

It gives the Telford Central Seventh-day Adventist Church and our Sponsors from the Welsh Mission great pleasure to report on the success of our second Family Fun Day at Millennium Village. The event was held on Sunday, 31st March 2024 at the community square located in front of the Rose Manor Independent Living Accommodation.

Meaningful relationships were maintained and even established on the day. It was an absolute blessing to see a significant number of persons of all ages from within our community attend the event.

Our initiatives to engage with our community proved to be a huge success.  Our local police officers arrived with a smile and intentionally participated in the event. We all dined around a vegetarian barbeque, which improved social cohesion.

Individuals were given an opportunity to learn about the eight laws of health, whilst being in receipt of free literature relating to our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ’s soon return.

The children were impressed and totally engaged with the array of activities. These included a bouncy castle, an assault course, a smoothie bike, and playing football. However, the ultimate attraction for the youngsters was the arrival of the fire brigade and the showcasing of their resources.

We sincerely hope and pray that our efforts with friendship evangelism like that of our Lord and Saviour will be an avenue to win souls for God’s kingdom.

Community Health Fayre

Evangelism continues to be the focal point at the Telford Central SDA church. As a church, Telford Central has worked alongside Shrewsbury & Telford NHS Trust to present the first of our very own annual Community Health Fayres, which took place on Sunday, 14th July at the Millennium Village, Telford.

Community Health Fayre

We invited other health agencies to collaborate with us. This included: Lingen Davies, Ironbridge Museum, Adult Social Care, Health Watch, Health Improvement Practitioners (Weight, Height, Blood Pressure and other health checks), Fire Brigade, Community Police, Interfaith Basket Ball Team, and the Welsh Mission's Health Ministries Department.

Members of Telford Central’s district churches, namely Newtown and Shrewsbury, assisted in the effective delivery of educating our communities on how to live a healthier lifestyle. They introduced the eight laws of health, conducted healthy food demonstrations, and had fun blending healthy smoothies while exercising on a smoothie bike.

We also distributed copies of The Eight Laws of Health magazine and the book Ministry of Healing.

We have made significant progress in establishing meaningful relationships with various agencies and community members. This is evident from the police force attending Telford Central's SDA church on a Sabbath, invitations from the police to participate in local PACT/AIG meetings and scrutiny/advisory panels, and agencies' willingness to attend our future events.

The success of this event is largely attributed to members of our congregations coming together as one. There have been lessons learned, which will mean more successful events in the future. Nevertheless, we were very encouraged by the significant number of community members that attended this event, which has raised the awareness of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church within our communities.

It is our endeavour to continuously pray to God for His Spirit to move upon the hearts of men and women, young and old within our communities. May the Lord continue to give us the strength to act in His service to win souls for His kingdom.
